The fighting techniques of the Samurai bushi
Japanese Jujutsu is central to the traditional fighting techniques of the Samurai bushi, the warriors of feudal Japan. Japanese Jujutsu includes strikes, throws, locks, chokes and pins, and with a mastery of distance, timing and strategy, these unarmed techniques provide the foundations for using traditional Japanese weapons, known collectively as bujutsu.
Together, these arts form a well rounded, highly adaptable and effective fighting system, developed throughout 700 years of war and civil unrest, and so are steeped in culture, history and tradition. They continue to be practised throughout the world today as traditional Japanese Jujutsu, Kenjutsu, Jojutsu, Bojutsu, Yarijutsu and Naginatajutsu. These ancient arts are said to be the foundation of many modern sports and Budo disciplines, such as Aikido, Judo, BJJ, Hapkido and Kendo.
Distance, timing, angles and whole body movement
At Black Snow Dojo, we train Japanese Jujutsu and Bujutsu. We focus on developing technical skill in hand to hand combat and weapons, while cultivating the Budo spirit. Japanese martial arts rely on the skilful use of distance, timing, angles, weak points and whole body movement to overcome the opponent, rather than strength, speed and stamina. In this way a weaker person can overcome a stronger or better armed opponent.
Weapons include:
- katana
- bo
- yari
- naginata
- ono
- jo
- hanbo
- kusari fundo
- tanto
- tessen

Meditation and mindfulness
Meditation and mindfulness has the power to transform our lives and increase our capacity for peace, clarity and freedom whilst facing a busy, chaotic and often stressful world. Through the practice and exploration of awareness we can gain insight into the true nature of ourselves and our experience, and realise a harmony that overcomes our inner conflicts and outer struggles. Through the practice of meditation and mindfulness we discover a gateway to living through the avenue of awareness, rather than living through a mind caught up in excessive thinking, distraction and mental suffering.
- Shamathatranquillity
- Vipashyanainsight
- Atiyoga
Our class is taught with an emphasis on Shamatha (tranquillity) and Vipashyana (insight). We train to develop a calm, clear, stable mind, imbued with awareness and non-distraction (Shamatha). Once achieved, we investigate the nature of self, thoughts and perceptions to experience direct insight (Vipashyana).
We provide students with the necessary skills and direction to cultivate practice at home and support them on their journey. The benefits of practice can be life changing. Peace of mind, contentment and happiness do not lie outside of oneself, but within.
Suitable for both beginners and advanced. We have plenty of free parking available on site. Please contact us for further details.

That is exactly how Black Snow works now, and it works. The three ways to get in touch are listed here, and every one of them is real.
In the real build this section becomes a live class register on Black Snow’s own diary: a place on Monday, Wednesday or Friday, or a private meditation session, booked and confirmed without a phone call, and the enquiry landing in the right place every time. Nothing on this preview page submits anywhere — the “Book a place” buttons simply bring you here.

About this preview
This page was built in an afternoon by Fully Booked from what is publicly on the Black Snow Martial Arts Centre website. It is a taste of the direction, not the final thing. The real build would be considerably more detailed and would carry the club’s own pages in full — Martial Arts Classes and Meditation Classes — along with:
- Black Snow’s own photography at full resolution
- both class programmes in full
- live booking on the club’s own diary for class places and private sessions
- SEO and analytics
- a complete membership price list
- working contact forms
What is real and what is a placeholder.
- The class nights and per-class prices shown are Black Snow’s real published ones.
- The membership price is not shown because the club’s site publishes none — “Your number here” marks where it would sit.
- Any “Book a place” control is illustrative and nothing submits. There are no forms, no cookies, no analytics and no third-party embeds on this page.
- Every photograph is Black Snow’s own, shown no larger than its original size.
